    by gouy2k

It's a pretty common question these days, "why aren't you Windows Live Spaces yet?"  The response is a simple one: we will be soon.  It's already been discussed publicly via press releases, demos, and exec interviews... so I'm not averse to talking about it here.

The Live initiative is a huge undertaking spanning thousands of people in the company... and efforts like that simply take time to get right.  As a company we tend to be pretty open about what we're planning and working on - we always have been - in order to get feedback early and often.  Sometimes I think we speak up too soon, but I also tend to think the benefits of being transparent with our users outweigh the benefits of "sneaking up" on the competition.  Apple can have that practice all to itself; we'll bet on you guys.

Either way, the (slightly more indepth) answers are actually pretty straightforward.  1) Windows Live is a beta service and MSN Spaces is not.  Unlike Windows Live Messenger, it's pretty hard (and costly) to run MSN Spaces side-by-side with a beta of Windows Live Spaces.  2) We're working hard to make the experience "pop" when we go Live.  Who wants a new logo without something compelling and cool to go along with it?  Windows Live on the whole won't just pick up where MSN left off; it needs to be a leap forward.  That's our goal.
